Preparing for transition is at the heart of all our work with you. From the moment you join Coleg Elidyr, we will work closely with you to identify your desired destination when you leave college and to implement the strategies you need to put in place to achieve this.
Your learning plan will identify the targets and skills you need to make your goal a reality. We will work closely with your careers officers and social workers to ensure a coordinated approach on your behalf and the question of transition will be addressed in each of your review meetings.
In Personal Development & Citizenship (PDC) you will learn about a range of topics that relate directly to your life when you leave college. For example you will learn about your rights and responsibilities, relationships, managing your money, working together as part of a team as well as many other important and interesting subjects. During your time here, we will support you in writing a CV and compiling your own Record of Achievement, while our external work experience programme gives you the opportunity to apply the skills you have learned at college to real working contexts.
Finally, the Independent Living Skills programme that you follow in the house prepares you directly for living as independently as you can in the future, whether cooking your own meals, doing your own laundry or using public transport.
