Work experience is an important part of your learning programme at Coleg Elidyr. The realistic vocational settings offer plenty of opportunities for internal work experience on the farm, in the kitchens and garden or even in the Main Office. Many learners also benefit from the links established with local employers to transfer the skills acquired in college to real working environments, including placements at supermarkets and shops, pubs and cafes, Aberglasney House & Gardens and local industries.
Our Work Experience Programmes ensures that where appropriate all learners engage in relevant, meaningful work experience of their choice.
Learners can access high quality, purposeful internal placements in different areas on site, including the farm, office, gardens and kitchens. Internal placements develop learners’ work ethic and sense of responsibility and lead many learners on to external placements in the wider community.
Close links with local employers and voluntary groups enable learners to access a wide range of interesting and exciting external work experiences. We currently have placements in a wide range of retail and hospitality settings as well National Trust gardens and woodlands, RSPCA centres and other voluntary organisations.
Throughout the Work Experience Programme there is a clear focus upon the individual learner; their needs, aspirations and development. Learners areinvolved in creating their own career plans which are comprehensive working documents mapping their career progression. Challenging, appropriate targets and effective monitoring of every individual’s progress ensures that learners fulfill their potential and gain vital transferable skills which are central to their future employment as well as their social and personal wellbeing.
