As a college located within a working farm, we offer a wide range of vocational learning opportunities, including Farm & Agriculture, Garden & Nature and Estate Management. We also offer Retail through our own on-site shop and Catering & Hospitality through Ty Collen, our own bed and breakfast.
“All life is a process, and to give meaning to any person’s life, that person must be involved in and experience the context of process in all areas of their existence.”
(Birthe Hougaard, Coleg Elidyr founder)
Central to each student’s experience of their time at Coleg Elidyr is their relationship to the land. Situated on 180 acres of the beautiful Towy Valley of Mid-Wales, the site includes a working farm, extensive estate grounds and a large kitchen garden. The land is thus an integral feature of college life for many of the students and offers many meaningful opportunities for learning and the acquisition of vocational skills. In counting out animal feed, checking animal welfare, installing fencing, chopping logs, helping to maintain the college grounds or cultivating herbs and vegetables in the kitchen garden, students can apply literacy and numeracy skills and demonstrate responsibility within a context that is purposeful and age appropriate.
Equally, working in such close proximity to the land allows the students to follow all stages in the natural process, as each season gives way to another. The rhythms of the seasons help to reconnect the students to the natural world and offer an holistic experience of living and learning that is therapeutic in the most fundamental sense.
