Sapphire - House Manager

Busy, varied days as a house manager.

I’m the house manager at Nant Gwyn. My role is to oversee the effective day-to-day running of the house and make sure that the needs of the young people are first and foremost. Also, I support my team to make sure they have the opportunities to flourish in this profession.

A typical day as a house manager at Elidyr Communities Trust

No two days are the same in Nant Gwyn! In general I work 8.30am – 4.30pm, 5 days a week. My usual day starts with the morning meeting and organising where the learners need to be for the day. Then I’ll check staffing levels are correct. I have a lot of meetings and phone calls with stakeholders. It’s very important to have lists to keep on top of things and be able to prioritise whatever needs doing for the day.

The best thing about working at Elidyr Communities Trust

Getting to manage a diverse group of amazing people with a passion for care, and spending time with the learners is what makes this job interesting. One of the biggest rewards is seeing the young people learn a new skill they did not have previously. Nant Gwyn is a busy environment and I enjoy this pace of working.

What would you say to someone who was thinking of joining Elidyr Communities Trust?

I would say come and give it a go, give it a try … this is a very rewarding job. If you enjoy spending time with a diverse group of individuals and want to learn new skills including alternative ways to communicate this is the place for you.

If you'd consider a career in care, have a look at our vacancies page.
