To ensure that Coleg Elidyr is the right place for a learner, we require all prospective learners to join us for a three day residential assessment. During this time, you’ll have a chance to participate in a variety of work areas and will be assigned to stay in one of our houses.
How can I attend a 3 day assessment?
We request that you complete our application process, following which all the documents you have sent in are reviewed by Head of Care and Head of Education. If they feel we could offer you a programme that will meet your needs, we will then invite you in for a 3 day residential assessment.
If you would like to download a copy of our application forms, to start the application process, please click here to visit our application forms page.
What can I expect?
You will arrive during the morning of your first day and have the opportunity to meet the house staff and settle into your room with your family supporting you. You and your family will join your house for lunch on the first day, following which you will attend a work session.
While you are working in the afternoon, your family will meet with a member of the Education team and a member of the Care team to discuss your abilities, preferences and needs.
During your first afternoon, you and your family will also attend an assessment with our Total Communication Coordinator to discuss how you communicate best.
Following this, your parents will leave and you will take part in an evening activity with your peers in the House.
You will continue to attend College sessions and workshops during the next two days, before your family meet with you again at lunch-time on day 3. Following this, your assessment is complete.
What are the outcomes of a residential assessment?
The purpose of the three days is to assess your abilities and needs, and the appropriateness of your placement in our College. The days are also designed to help you and your parents gain a comprehensive picture of what it is like to be at Coleg Elidyr. Our staff will be happy to help you and answer any questions you may have.
What’s the next step?
Coleg Elidyr staff who have worked with you will complete assessment reports which are then reviewed by the admissions group. The admissions group consists of:
The Vice Principal Education and Training
The Vice Principal Finance and Resources
The Head of Education (Learner’s Programme)
The Head of Care
The Admissions Co-ordinator
If they feel we can offer an appropriate programme, you will be contacted by the admissions co-ordinator to confirm an offer of placement; this process is usually completed within a month of the assessment. This confirmation is sent in writing along with an acceptance form which we ask you to complete and return. On receipt of this, the funding process is then followed.
